Repairs and Upgrades to Camper Cabins Underway

We’re replacing the old closets in the FCC cabins with new cubbies and a desk for the counselor

We are pleased to announce that we are concentrating this off-season on repairs and upgrades to the 36 camper cabins. Bill Wilson, who was a staff member at Falling Creek from 1989 until the mid 2000’s on the Facilities team, is leading this charge. He has had his own general contracting company for more than five years now.

Backpacks will now be hung on the front porch instead of being stored in the rafters

For many years, the camper trunks were placed on the front porch. The main reason was due to the increase in the height of the newer trunks and they wouldn’t fit under the beds anymore. It did provide an easy way to access the trunks, however the backpacks continued to be stored in the rafters inside the cabins. This made it difficult to access their packs and gear. In an effort to make both trunks and packs more easily accessible, we have raised the beds slightly so the trunks can now be stored inside under the beds, and we added dowels on the outside porch wall to allow the backpacks to be stored there. Their shoes will be lined up under the packs.

New shower divider and privacy door

In the bathrooms, we are adding a new wall divider and privacy door adjacent to the shower. This will allow one camper to brush his teeth while another cabin mate can now use the shower at the same time, thus making the bed time process twice as efficient.

We are adding new fire exits and ladders in every cabin opposite the entry door.

We are adding a large shelf for each camper at their bed. This allows them to manage their personal belongings in a tidy manner, yet still offers easy access.

Bill’s crew is teaming with Jerry and the FCC guys to get these repairs completed by the time camp starts next summer.
