We wrapped up our final week of Camp Reunions and Movie Shows this year with a stop in Houston, TX, and Asheville, NC – our furthest and closest stops of this year in the same week! We enjoyed reconnecting with our camp families and alumni across the country, sharing what makes boys camp special, as well as meeting plenty of new faces. If we didn’t make it to your city in-person this year, don’t worry! We’ll be rotating most of the cities we visit each fall, so next fall will feature new destinations.

We had a great time in Houston on Monday, kicking off the week with the Riser Family. Many thanks to Winifred and Carleton Riser for once again hosting. The Fanning family offered a beautiful and delicious Falling Creek Camp logo cookie cake, a tradition they have graciously continued over the years. Winifred even had Cheerwine to drink just like we do once weekly at camp Cookouts – two things we all love!

Yates enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with Sterling Bomar, who was a 7+ summer camper in the 80’s from Spartanburg, SC. He and his family are enjoying living in Houston and Sterling was excited to introduce his son to FCC tonight. Carleton Riser, one of our hosts, was an FCC camper in the 70’s and 80’s. We were able to catch up with several other campers in attendance, including Zell and Pete, who have each worked very hard to attain Warrior level in 3 activities at camp, which is the highest level in an activity. Earning three “Warriors” qualifies them as Journeymen, making them eligible to go on their “Journey” during the summer, which will challenge them with endurance, strategy, orienteering, outdoor skills, and more. Upon completion of the Journey, campers earn the coveted title of Keeper of the Flame.

On Wednesday, we wrapped up our final travel calendar with a stop in Asheville, North Carolina. Many thanks to Emily & Jay West for hosting the Asheville area Movies & Reunion at their beautiful home! We are excited that their son will be returning for his 7th summer at boys camp in 2020. Our Asheville show was unique because we live-streamed it through our Facebook page, and for the first time on our Instagram. It was a lot of fun to catch up with Falling Creek friends both in-person and virtually. If you tuned in on our live-stream, email your address to so we can send a 2020 Trunk Sticker your way!

It was a real treat to have so many Falling Creek staff and their families tonight including the Pharr’s, Bates’, Shelley, Paige, Frank, Natasha, Croft, KC, Scuba, and superstar alumni Goody. Jim Goodrum (known by his camp friends as Goody), was at Falling Creek for over 30 years and held almost every position. Most recently, he was the Director of Staff & Camper Development at FCC, and now works at Carolina Day School as the Director of After-School Programs. We are thrilled that his son Thompson (Goody’s mini-me), is now old enough to be a Falling Creek camper himself. We also enjoyed seeing Larry and Avery, both long time FCC campers from New Orleans. They are now in high school at nearby Christ School, and came to see everyone tonight. Croft and KC are Sophomores at nearby Brevard College in North Carolina.

John Bates, Director of Staff & Camper Development at FCC, came to the event with his wife Alexandria and their two daughters. John was a camper and counselor for many years at FCC since the 90s before joining the full-time leadership team. We also enjoyed seeing Garrett and Erin Graham, as well as their son who will be returning to Falling Creek this summer. The Grahams are the Directors and Owners of nearby Camp Glen Arden, where Annie Pharr Ramsbotham once served as an assistant program director and younger Pharr sisters Jasmine and Danielle are returning to camp in 2020.

Thanks to everyone who came to see us at the Falling Creek Camp Reunions and Movie Shows, not just this week, but at all our previous stops this year! As we noted earlier, we’ll be rotating the cities that we visit each fall. We look forward to seeing you all!
