Even after morning and afternoon activities, we don’t head to bed without one last chance to run around together! Each night after dinner we have an Evening Program, which is always a surprise. Whether it’s Green vs. Gold relays or Highland Games, Multiball or Taco Cat, no matter what the surprise is, it’s always a good one. On Wednesday night, we had Counselor Hunt!

Each counselor was hidden around camp, and they could be anywhere in bounds as long as they weren’t in water or under a roof. Campers tried to find and catch the counselors to earn points for their teams, all while trying to evade the “Counselor Protection Agency,” who was roaming around trying to pull campers’ flag belts! If the CPA pulled a camper’s flag belt, it would free the captured counselor, who could then re-hide. The flag belt would also be turned into the bank for negative team points!

To catch a counselor, campers had to tag them, or call them by their name if they couldn’t reach them. Then the counselor would give up one of their cards to the campers, which could be returned to the bank for team points. If the counselor was out of cards, then the campers could escort them to the bank for more points - however, they would have to protect them from the CPA until they got to the bank safely!

Each Counselor Card described their unique stats. “Legendary” counselors were worth more than “Rare” ones, and “Super” counselors could run when spotted! Counselors who don’t get caught in one session become worth more points as the summer goes on. “We found Eli!” a group of boys from Cabin 16 announced excitedly. “He’s worth 400 points but we caught him together!” said Drew, Wallace, and Hunter.

Charles was found hiding between the canoes on the shore of the lower lake, and Sunny got spotted in a tree. She switches her nametag to read “Stormy” during Evening Programs, highlighting her competitive spirit that comes out during games, but the campers knew both her names anyway! “Cabin 8 was loving it,” said Harry, who had also been spotted in a tree. “They were all searching together. Davis and Davy found me, and I had never been found before!”

Campers were motivated to earn more points not only to win this game, but to gain an edge in the Green vs. Gold session total! Each cabin is on either the Green or the Gold side, competing for points to have their team win by the end of the session. At the end of the Counselor Hunt, Gold was in the lead! They currently have 2848 points, to Green’s 1443. However, there’s still a lot of time and several games left in the session to catch up!

While everyone chooses the activities they want to do during the day, Evening Program is a chance to all play together as a large group, whether that’s in our Cabin Line groups or as a whole camp community. It’s also a good way to get some final wiggles out before winding down for bed.

The best part about Evening Program is that even though we can all enjoy a little friendly Green vs. Gold competition from time to time, campers and counselors know that at the end of the day, we’re all on the same Falling Creek team. Behold!
