Often the process of persevering towards something is more important than actually accomplishing that goal. Some say that the secret to a long and healthy life is to always be setting goals for ourselves, because humans are meant to grow. Whether these are small goals like getting a “10” in cabin inspection for the day, or large goals like achieving the Keeper of the Flame level after multiple years, we should always be challenging ourselves at every stage of life. This can help us constantly work on our Warrior Spirits and Servants Hearts, continuing to develop into better versions of ourselves.
No matter what a camper’s goals are during the summer, our goal as counselors is to help them reach that goal. Boys work on their progress year after year, returning each summer - but the progress doesn’t have to stop when the session ends! Many boys meet up during the off-season with friends they met at camp, working on their favorite activities together, or continuing to practice their favorite activities themselves at home. We also encourage boys to reach out to their counselors and write them letters, staying in touch with those mentors throughout the year.
We’re hardly a week into this session, and are excited to continue laying the foundation, working on goals, and introducing boys to skills that they can progress in long after camp has ended. It’s our first Saturday together here at Main Camp, and we’re looking forward to another day of growth and progress!
