Main Camp has begun!

Yesterday this mountain came alive once again as we welcomed campers and families for the four-week Main Camp session. We hope that you had safe travels back after Opening Day - the boys woke up today ready to hit the ground running, and this session is already off to a great start!

Here are the highlights from the rest of the day after you all started heading back home yesterday:

The boys got unpacked and settled in with their cabin mates. There were lots of introductions as well as reunions!

We gathered as a full camp community at Morning Watch once everyone arrived.

In the afternoon, we signed up for trips (backpacking, climbing, mountain biking, paddling) as well as special activities (fly fishing, sailing, horseback, blacksmithing). We also had a high-energy Evening Assembly!

Below are all the signups offered yesterday, to get ready for a great first day.

For Evening Program after dinner, we played “FCC Party Deluxe Edition”. This was like an interactive “Life-Sized” Board Game where cabins compete in challenges, complete team building activities, and “break the ice” with each other. The whole event was a Green vs. Gold challenge, so cabins earned points for their respective teams.

Cabins were paired up, and each were given a starting location somewhere on camp property. From there, each pair of cabins acted as one “Game Piece” moving from location to location on the game board map. Each location on the map had a challenge, where the cabins would compete against each other.

Winning challenges earned your cabin “Yates Bucks” which would be turned in at the end of the game to earn points for your respective team. They could also be used to buy “Chance Cards” at Bank locations which would either help, or hurt, the team’s progress. Each Chance Card was 50 Yates Bucks, so teams had to spend (or save) wisely!

To wind down a big day, we gathered quietly at Campfire for skits, songs, and introductions.

The Journeymen/Keepers of the Flame were introduced, as well as the Honor Council and Men of S.T.E.E.L. John Stanfill and Will Cameron are staff members this summer who both achieved Keeper of the Flame status as campers. So far this summer, Quentin B. is the sole Journeyman, who will attempt his journey at a later date this session.

Campfire is always a great way to end the day, but the boys likely went to sleep dreaming of all the excitement that awaited them in the morning.

Daily photos will be uploaded each morning by lunchtime, reflecting photos taken the day before.

You can also stay connected with our summer photo system through your CampInTouch account. Our intention is not to try to be comprehensive and capture a photo of every camper and counselor every day, but to give you a general idea of what is going on at camp.

Online Photos

Daily photos will be uploaded each morning by lunchtime, reflecting photos taken the day before.

When you access the photo system within CampInTouch, you’ll notice the organization of photo albums. You’ll also see a season selector at the top of the screen, which gives you easy access to camp memories from years past.

Swipe or use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate through an album. Selecting a photo gives you a much larger view of that image, and from there, you can use the gray and white button (next to the yellow shopping cart button) for a menu of options including downloading of the photo to your computer. Use the shopping cart to order physical prints and photo gifts. The “star” icon in the upper left corner of the photo is a quick way to select favorites to save for later viewing, downloading, or ordering.
