Sundays At Camp

Easy Like Sunday Morning!

As we mentioned yesterday on the blog, weekends at camp offer a break from the daily routine. Sundays are a slower paced day to relax, clean, and get ready for the week ahead!

We start with an extra hour of sleep, and extra time to clean the cabins following breakfast. Cabin inspection includes a trunk inspection on Sundays, and with the cleanest cabins being called first for Ice Cream Sundaes, there’s a lot of motivation!

Mid-morning, we change into our white shirts and head to Church. Falling Creek is a Christian camp, but we are non-denominational and our church service is centered around common values that are important for everyone, no matter your specific faith background. Yesterday’s service continued with the theme of “bravery” from the first week.

After church we had an hour of free choice time, Sunday lunch, and finally Sunday sundaes!

Cabins are released from lunch in the order of cleanest cabins, based on their average cabin inspection scores from the past week. The ice cream buffet is a great treat for the week!

In the afternoon, we recharge with an extended Rest Hour and look forward to Special Signups! During Sunday afternoons, counselors can offer games, activities, or lessons they wouldn’t normally teach, and boys can try something different from their typical schedule.

Counselors announce where they will be for the first or second half of the afternoon, and boys are free to meet them where the activity of their choice is held.

During Special Signups, boys could choose from…

After working up an appetite, everyone looks forward to Sunday dinner!

Every week we have a cookout where we eat picnic-style on the field by the gym. The hamburgers are grilled outdoors on the huge camp grill, accompanied by great sides and dessert. The boys are also able to have Cheerwine with dinner, their weekly soda treat!

Sunday evenings always close with Campfire, one of the most beloved times at camp where we all share stories, songs, and skits around the fire.

After Campfire we sing Taps, and the words and melody are a comforting way to end the day: “All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Goodnight.”

We’re looking forward to another great week of June Camp!
