Week 2 of June Camp is off to a great start!

We’ve had a week to settle into camp, try some new things, and start making friends. The second week is when we’re able to start making good progress on art projects, skills progressions, deeper friendships, and more challenging trips!

Here are some highlights from our Monday:

  • Theme of the Week: Humility Having a Servant’s Heart is one of the four parts of the Falling Creek Code, and we hope to foster a spirit of humility in our camp community. As C.S. Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” This is the theme that will shape our Evening Embers, Campfire, and Church discussions this week at camp.

  • Morning Watch: Program Director Nuckles shared a thought for the day at Morning Watch. He talked about famous people in sports who were the best in their field despite having seemingly low sports stats percentages, and encouraged everyone to stretch toward higher goals.

With a new week comes new things to work on in our arts activities! Woodshop has started a new project to further expand on learning skills, and Art is working on wire sculptures.

Tournaments

The camper/counselor tennis and pickleball tournaments have started!

These are bracket style tournaments lasting the whole session, where campers choose the staff member to be their teammate. For example, yesterday Yates played his match with JW as his partner in the pickleball tournament. It was a great game, but Will and Logan (the counselor he chose as his partner) came out victorious and will move to the next round!

Evening Program: Line night!

Sorrel played dodgeball in the Thunder Dungeon, Tsuga played Tacocat on the ballfield, Robinia played Yoshi ball and other games on the turf field, and Betula played Multi-ball on the tennis courts.
