The day started with an exciting skit announcement at Morning Assembly

Our first Saturday together at 2-Week Camp was a blast!

Back home, campers might spend Saturday morning playing video games, but yesterday we got to play a popular game in real life - it was Mario Kart day! On weekends at camp we take a break from our typical schedules and spend the morning playing an all-camp-game together.

Building their karts as a cabin

After breakfast, each cabin got the supplies to build their own Mario Kart out of cardboard boxes to compete against other cabins in their line! Four campers had to fit inside a completely closed Kart, running around one lap together before switching out in the pit lane for another four campers, who would then run the final lap.

Power-up mystery boxes out on the course!

Just like a Mario Kart video game, there were plenty of items, obstacles, and powerups out on the course to influence the race! Item boxes would appear on the course at certain times, and a cabin could take one item box per lap if it appeared. They could receive the following powerups:

Staff helping with the power-up items during the race
  • Banana: If you received the “banana” powerup, a yellow dodgeball could be thrown at a kart behind you; the yellow staff member would then make the kart behind spin around one time before resuming the race.
  • Green Shell: The green shell (a green dodgeball) could be thrown at a kart ahead; the green staff member would then make the cabin spin one time before resuming the race.
  • Blue Shell: The blue shell (a blue dodgeball) could be handed to a blue staff member, who would then sprint ahead to the first-placed team to make them spin one time before resuming the race.

  • Bullet Bill: The purple dodgeball could be given to Mario or Luigi, who would let that cabin’s kart take a shortcut.
  • Squid: Turning in an orange dodgeball to Bowser, Waluigi or Wario, would let them use Super Soakers to spray all of the other cabins and throw them off their game!

The end of the race finished with popsicles! From there we headed to free choice time, and then lunch.
