This summer is the first time in a few years that we’ve been able to reunite with friends at other nearby camps. One of the most missed events has been the classic summer camp dance.
For our Main Campers, Friday was the big day!
We had a big morning full of activities and plenty of trips returning to camp for the weekend (see yesterday’s blog for details on those!), but in the afternoon it was time for our dance with Camp Illahee For Girls!
Illahee is a camp in nearby Brevard, North Carolina, with a long history starting back in 1921. The younger Sorrel and Tsuga lines went to Illahee, while the older Robinia and Betula Lines stayed here at camp to host the older half of the Illahee girls.
The Illahee girls were great hosts as usual, serving us a delicious dinner, throwing a fun dance party (shoutout to DJ Marcus!), and ending the night with popsicles to cool down before the ride home.
Back at Falling Creek, the guys and girls made their way to the gym for some dancing after a picnic dinner! Matt Sloan led them in a combination of both square dances and modern dance songs. In addition to meeting new friends, many siblings and old friends were able to see each other at the dance, and it was fun to see their reunions.
It was an exciting and memorable evening at both locations. We thank Illahee for their warm hospitality and for having their girls dance with our Falling Creek boys!
This weekend, Illahee wasn’t the only camp group we were able to spend time with… We also got to spend the day with Camp Rockmont, a boys camp in nearby Black Mountain, NC! Tomorrow, we’ll have a blog all about our inaugural Avalanche Tournament day between Rockmont and Falling Creek!
