Every day is a party at camp, but on the 4th of July, we break out all the festivities! Though the 4th is an American holiday, everyone goes all-out to celebrate as a camp community, regardless of where you call home. This session, we are fortunate to have many different countries represented, with campers and staff from Australia, England, Jordan, Hong Kong, Kenya, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Taiwan, and Wales. We were happy to be able to spend the day partying together!

Festive waffles and bacon with red (strawberries), white (whipped cream), and blueberries!

The fun started by walking to the Green River Flats after breakfast to spend the morning playing games, creek stomping, mud wrestling, and hammocking. There was also spikeball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, slacklining, and chess.

Mid-morning while at the Flats, we played a new All Camp Game! It was called “Allegiance,” and at it’s core it is a game of tag between Green and Gold. Teams started in bases on opposite ends of The Flats, wearing their flat belt colors.

At the beginning of each round, one team was pulling belts, while the other team was evading their pursuit. Each team had a round to chase the other, but if your belt got pulled, you would have to switch flags to the color of the other team! The goal of the game was to successfully convert as many players as possible from the other team to your color.

Afterwards there was time to hang out and enjoy time at the Flats with friends. For lunch, we had a picnic! Following lunch there was another group event, this time the “Limo Race Across America”!

Each cabin had to work together to build a fancy limousine out of cardboard boxes to compete against other cabins in their Line. Four campers had to fit inside a completely closed cardboard limo, complete one lap together, and switch out in the pit lane for the other four campers to complete the final lap. There were some creative cars, and lots of laughter as the racers ran around the track trying to be the first to finish!

Bingoooo!

We walked back up to the main bowl of camp for dinner, and had some free choice time in the evening. The evening rain made for perfect “Bingo” weather! Luckily, the thunderstorms cleared out just in time, and we could enjoy fireworks to cap off a great day! Everyone said it was Simon’s best fireworks show yet. Happy 4th of July!

In addition to the fun happening at camp, there were also two day trip opportunities. One group paddled the Upper Green River, while the other biked at the Traveler’s Rest pump track. No matter how you chose to spend the day, it was a fun one!
