Weekends At Camp

Saturdays are for the boys!

If you’ve been reading the blog this summer (or have been a camp parent before) then you know that weekends at camp are a little different!

On our first Saturday of Main Camp, we slept in for an extra hour and then had tournaments instead of regular activities! Boys can choose their favorite sport to challenge their friends in, tournament style, or can participate in special activities that are offered instead of tournaments.

Saturday’s special morning activity options were as pictured below:

In the afternoon following lunch, we play an “all-camp-game,” and this time it was the classic favorite, Wild Wild West!

To finish the day, the thirteen cabins who didn’t have their Cabin Overnights at the beginning of the week headed out to the shelters around camp property to enjoy time camping together as a cabin group.

Sunday Funday

Sundays are a slower paced day to relax, clean, worship, and get ready for the week ahead!

We start with an extra hour of sleep, and extra time to clean the cabins following breakfast. Cabin inspection includes a trunk inspection on Sundays, and with the cleanest cabins being called first for Ice Cream Sundaes, there’s a lot of motivation!

Mid-morning, we change into our white shirts and head to Church.

After church we had an hour of free choice time, Sunday lunch, and finally Sunday sundaes!

In the afternoon, we recharge with an extended Rest Hour and look forward to Special Signups!

During Sunday afternoons, counselors can offer games, activities, or lessons they wouldn’t normally teach, and boys can try something different from their typical schedule.

On the weekends, there's plenty of free choice for boys to be as active or relaxed as they wish!

Counselors announce where they will be for the first or second half of the afternoon, and boys are free to meet them where the activity of their choice is held. During yesterday’s Special Signups, boys interested in participating in the Ironman Triathlon during this session could do the swim trial.

Every week we have a cookout where we eat picnic-style on the field by the gym, and the weekly Cheerwine soda is also a huge highlight.

Sunday evenings always close with Campfire, one of the most beloved times at camp where we all share stories, songs, and skits around the fire. Though the weather kept us at the gym, it was still a great evening reflecting on a fun first week together.

Here’s to Monday, and another exciting week at camp!
