Capture the Flag - Superhero Version

Mayo Men & Ketchup Kingdom

Yesterday was “Superhero Day,” culminating in a special Evening Program! We played Capture the Flag, but with a superhero twist. The campers got a kick out of the “condiment heroes”, Ketchup King and Mayo Man! After dinner, the Green and Gold cabins were split into their two teams, each playing to defend their half of camp.

The upper dam was the neutral zone separating the two halves of the “game map,” and to start, each side hid their own flag. To win, players would have to venture to the other side to find the flag, and successfully bring it back to their side without having their belts pulled.

As an additional twist, the “Mayo Men” were holding the Gym as their domain, with an extra Black Flag that either the Green or Gold teams could capture, in addition to their flag. In the Mayo Men doman, anyone’s belt could be pulled. If you captured the Black Flag and returned it to your team’s bank, you would get 100 additional points! The round wouldn’t end if the Black Flag was captured, so players could focus on capturing this bonus flag, defending their team’s side, or searching for/recovering their flag on the opposing team’s side.

Plein Air Painting

En Plein Air is French for “in the open air”, and this kind of painting is exactly what our arts & crafts campers got to do yesterday. They took some watercolors up to the gazebo at the overlook, and enjoyed painting the view while immersed in a beautiful outdoor setting.

Camp Ride

The painters weren’t the only ones to enjoy the overlook views yesterday - there was also a group of mountain bikers out practicing the basics and going on a camp ride.

Farm Fresh

At the F.A.R.M., the boys have been able to enjoy the fruits of their labor by picking and tasting the food that has been growing there. Yesterday they learned how to make guacamole, and while we don’t have the climate to grow avocados at camp, they got to add peppers and tomatoes that they picked right from the vine. They also got to eat some ripe strawberries as a sweet treat beforehand, which have been growing in one of the raised beds too.

Turkey Pen 2-Day

Another highlight from our Tuesday was having the Turkey Pen backpacking group return from their overnight adventure! They hiked around Pisgah National Forest, cooled off in mountain streams, played card games together at the campsite, and enjoyed eating wild blackberries.

Our final multi-day trips will be returning today, and we’re looking forward to sharing their photos soon!
