Thank You 2-Week Campers!

Two weeks, too fun!

Parents, if you’re reading this, you may already have a happily worn out boy in your car, returning home from a busy two weeks! Or, you may be eagerly on your way to camp to pick up your son and hear all his stories!

However, in case the boys are too sleepy to share many details during the car ride, we thought a little blog recap of our final day would help.

Making s'mores in OSC yesterday

Thursday started with regular activities in the morning, and though it was a bit rainy, it didn’t dampen any spirits. Since there wasn’t lightning detected by our weather system, we could still play on the fields and in the lakes as usual, but it was also a nice day to have our covered spaces like the Gym and Thunder Dungeon to stay dry. It was the perfect day to sit around a campfire, and OSC took the opportunity to make s’mores during their activity periods.

A summer camp classic!

During Free Choice time, boys were able to help cook (and eat!) Longenecker Lumps, which are warm, fried, doughnut balls covered in cinnamon sugar. Alumni will be familiar with this tasty tradition, but if you want to learn the history (or the recipe!) you can read this blog.

Lost & Found fashion show!

After lunch, the counselors put on a lost & found “fashion show” after lunch where boys could see staff modeling unclaimed items, and reunite with their lost clothing and gear. We also had extra packing time during an extended rest hour, to make sure everything was ready to go for today.

Did you know that Matt Sloan (pictured right) and his family have actually been contestants on Family Feud before??

For Evening Program, we had one more Cabin Challenge within our Line groups. The younger cabins (in Sorrel and Tsuga) played dodgeball and games in the Dining Hall while the older cabins (Betula and Robinia) played Falling Creek Feud! Cabins went head to head for Green and Gold points, in a game show event based on “Family Feud”.

Finally, it was time for Final Campfire, and thankfully the rain held off so we could gather in our usual place. During Campfire, we enjoyed skits, songs, and finally the candle lighting ceremony. The first candle is lit from the central campfire, and spreads from there, person to person. Each boy lights his candle from another, symbolizing the individual light we hold, and how it costs us nothing to share our light with others.

This morning we enjoyed a hearty breakfast and one final Morning Assembly together. We hope you all have safe travels back home today - thank you for sharing your sons with us this session!
