We’ve spoken about our more traditional sports program, now let’s discuss the more out of the box sports that we have to offer here, at Falling Creek.
We offer a variety of sports, some less traditional than others which makes it even more fun!
Once all the nitty gritties are handled, we jump into the fun of learning archery! We start by telling the boys the plan for the day. Whether it be working on their progressions, or playing a mini game, we have a set out structure for each session.
We practice shooting, as well as work on aim. If we are not working on progressions, we often play an archery game. These games include Mini Olympics, which basically involves shooting the arrow, having eliminations , and moving the target back until one camper becomes the successor. Another fun game includes the Color Game, where a certain color on the target is picked and you have to hit that color to gain points. Every session is a chance to learn and improve on your archery skills.
We then break out into smaller groups, typically based on skill level. Beginners usually get one on one guidance with the counselors to ensure they can learn and have fun. At Disc Golf, we focus on having fun, even if you are a newbie, you can enjoy it! What’s better than walking through the woods and throwing discs?
Once you are prepped with the rules, we run through how the rifle works. Riflery is more than just shooting at a target, we practice aiming in different positions. These include prone, standing and kneeling. We practice these positions throughout the week, and on Fridays, we get to have a competition. The most accurate shooter wins.
At Riflery, we shoot airguns with small pellets aimed at targets that are placed about 10 yards away.
We then run drills and learn new techniques, such as forehand throws, backhands and certain specific plays. We teach newbies the rules and make it as interactive as possible.
Towards the end of the session, we will practice what we’ve learned. This often involves playing a game. We mix it up, and even the counselors join in! We often play a counselors versus campers game, which is always a blast!
Your boys have the opportunity to learn all these new skills and techniques. There is something for everyone at camp!
