The boys love Evening Program! But, exactly what is it?

Evening Program (EP) involves us splitting the camp into two teams, Green and Gold. This is done by cabin, having the even numbers being the Green team and the odd numbers being the Gold team. This ensures that each team has members from all age groups keeping everything fair. These games also involve the whole of camp, including the counselors, giving everybody an opportunity to join in the fun.

We then play a game or do an activity where the teams challenge each other and battle it out until one team ends up victorious. It allows the boys to connect with each other through games and friendly competition, not to mention it tires them out in time for bed!

Cabin Competition Rotations

This week, we had a range of EP games that were fun and interactive. Including Nugget Nirvana, which was included in the blog from June 11th. We also had a cabin competition on Tuesday that involved a rotation of games.

The boys were able to enjoy Warrior Ball, a Hula Hoop Race, Corn Hole, Giant Jenga, Dizzy Bat, Steal the Bacon, Red Light Green Light, Human Knot, Tug of War as well as Team Pyramid.

Warrior Ball is a camp favorite and the campers and counselors loved playing! It has a bunch of rules but basically involves hitting a soft medium sized ball in the direction of your opponent and hitting the legs to get them out.

The Hula Hoop Race tested each cabin’s teamwork skills. They all joined hands, and had to get a Hula Hoop from one side of the line to the other, while keeping their hands connected. They had to get their hands and legs through the Hula Hoop and work with the person next to them.

Dizzy bat was hilarious as the kids were instructed to spin around in a circle 10 times with their foreheads against a golf club, looking at the ground in order to make themselves dizzy. They then had to run around a cone and back to their team to tag the next player, while still dizzy!

Green and Gold Campfire

We split up into our teams, Green and Gold, a tradition we adopted from Greystone that began all the way back in 1969.

We started yesterday’s Evening Program by playing the game Dory with the counselors and campers. This game consists of one person being picked as Dory (in secret) and then the participants can go around the group introducing themselves to people, and asking others whether or not they are Dory. As soon as someone finds Dory, they all line up in a line, holding each other’s shoulders and the aim is to not be the last person connected.

Following the Dory game, the campers and counselors went off to their team meeting spots to decide who their new leader for the session would be, and worked hard to come up with a team chant, and secret handshake. Electing a team captain for Green and Gold is also a tradition we have had since 1969. The candidates gave speeches to their teammates and then the boys voted on who should be the leader.

The Green Team’s chant:

“Olay, Olay, Olay

Green team all the way

Olay, Olay, Olay

We’re winning every day

Olay, Olay, Olay

And we came here to say…”

(repeat beginning, increasing in speed)

The Gold Team’s chant:

“Hot like pee

Cool like lemonade

GOLD GOLD GOLD!”

(repeat three times)

As you can see, each team enjoyed creating a chant that best reflects their teamwork and dedication.
