Excitement fills the air at Falling Creek as we welcome our 2-Week Camp session to the beautiful Appalachian mountains.
As parents dropped their boys off, we already saw beautiful friendships blossoming amongst the boys. Whether you were here last year, or this is your first time, Falling Creek is the place to make lifelong friendships.
The boys are set to enjoy an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, camaraderie, and fun.
We asked a handful of the boys joining this session what they are most excited about, we received a range of answers from archery and riflery to rock climbing and mountain biking.
Morris O. from Shreveport, LA, in cabin 5 answered archery.
Will C. from Myrtle Beach, SC, in cabin 23 said horseback riding.
Freddy S. from Charlotte, NC, in cabin 30 is most excited about mountain biking.
Thatcher T. from Myrtle Beach, SC, cabin 23 answered with rock climbing.
Lawrence B. from Charleston, SC, from cabin 23 explained how he is most excited about the opportunity to meet up with his old camp friends.
What is Evening Program?
Evening Program (EP) happens every evening, it usually involves playing a game either in your lines (Sorrel, Tsuga, Robinia and Betula) or splitting into our Green and Gold teams. EP helps improve teamwork, healthy competition, social skills, creativity, and confidence. This helps the boys grow through personal development, emotional resilience, and character building.
Tonight we enjoyed a fun game of SWAG Relay, which was rather swag. The boys split up into their lines and raced against other cabins. The relay games included Dizzy Bat, which involves putting your head on a bat, spinning around 5 times and then running to the cone and back while dizzy, once you’re back you tag the next person to go.We then had the crab walk relay race, which included laying back like a crab and walking across the field on your hands and legs.
Next we had the egg race, we placed plastic eggs on spoons and ran across the field and back. A fun, new game we have introduced includes the shoe relay. This game involves putting your shoes in a pile in the middle of the gym, and running to the pile, quickly putting them on, then running back to tag the next player.
The EP was a ton of fun for both campers and counselors. It is a great way to introduce the boys to the camp.
What does Evening Embers entail?
Evening embers happen every night before the boys go to bed. They wash up, shower, brush teeth and then all sit together in a circle to share their thoughts and feelings for the day. This is an opportunity for the boys to get to know each other better and allows for sharing, reflecting and planning personal goals.
Having a moment to connect with their cabin mates and their counselors ensures everyone feels heard. Each camper is provided the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings and emotions. It is a safe space created through shared connectedness and building a community.
We post daily blogs that will tell a story about what has happened the previous day. This will give you a glimpse into camp life and provide some brief insight into your son’s day to day life at camp. These won’t be a full recap, and may sometimes highlight certain adventures or activities.
For more details about keeping up with what’s going on at camp, please see the email that Paige, our Communications Director, sent out last night. It explains camper mail, the upcoming “parent notes,” and online photo details. We can not wait to share all the exciting adventures with you during these next two weeks. And thank you for sharing your sons with us this 2024 Summer Camp Session!
