After breakfast, we went to the Lower Riding Ring for a medieval Town Square Tournament! The camp was separated into Green and Gold and battled it out.
We began the tournament with a good old chant for your team! Let’s see who can chant the loudest!
We then went straight into the battle! Starting with some Muttin’ Racin! This game involves having older boys pulling younger boys on a shovel. The younger boys ride the shovel while 2 older boys assist with pulling them around the barrel and back. The quickest team to complete moving all 5 participants won!
Next, we had the Sack Race! All team members had to participate in this one, everyone got a chance to bounce around. Every member of both teams had to bounce across the ring around the barrel. The first team to get each member done won!
Fill ‘er Up is great fun! The older campers carry the younger campers on their backs to fetch water using a jug and aim it to fill your buckets the fastest! First team to fill their canister wins!
Poisoned at Sea is a camp favorite, it involves getting dizzy with the bat! Placing your head on the bat, looking at the ground, spinning 10 times around until you’re dizzy. Then you have to run back to your team and tag the next participant.
Ready, set, aim! It is time for Target Practice Each team sends 3 teammates to try and slingshot water balloons into the ring and hit the target. We had 12 teammates holding the target and moving as and when necessary.
It is not a test of strength… but it is a test of courage!
After a great medieval lunch, we had another competition. We split up into our cabin groups and were challenged to build a functioning ship… but out of cardboard! Oh, and it also had to hold one passenger on board. They were approved to use natural things from the woods that were not alive.
The boys had loads of fun trying out different techniques for building their ships. They used cardboard, tape and some even used logs and wood. All different shapes, colors and designs were displayed.
We enjoyed a lovely Boat Parade, where one ship from each line was chosen as a winner. The design winners were cabins 4, 13, 21 and 32. All the ships were beautifully designed and some were very innovative.
We then had a race to see whose boat was most functional. One member from each cabin was picked to both propel and steer the boat to the finish line. A lot of boats sank… many not even making it off the shoreline. Although there were some very well designed boats out there.
Sorrel, cabin 7 wowed us with a design that had logs on the bottom, the cardboard boat floated and was 100% functional, the boy effortlessly rowed to the finish line and back, passing some of his sunken linemates.
Tsuga, cabin 13 also had a very interesting design, that at first glance, didn’t look as though it would make it. But WOW, did they surprise us? A cardboard boat shaped exactly like a box, no logs to keep it afloat, but perfectly insulated with tape, managed to cross the finish line with ease.
Robinia and Betula were definitely up staged by their younger competitors. Although we did have some great efforts and cabins 28 and 37 were victorious.
Dinner was served in a market style today. No plates, just some walking around and picking what you’d like. We had giant soft pretzels, sausage on a stick, mac n cheese balls and fried pickles. We had waffle cones with popcorn chicken inside. A yummy beef stew and french bread offered in a bowl as well as apple and peach pies for dessert.
Once everyone had gathered what we wanted to eat, we sat down on the ground and enjoyed our dinner picnic style.
Did someone say the Plague? For our Evening Program, we played a fun game that involved several counselors who initially had become ill with the Plague. They were roaming around and popping out of the woods and grabbing the flag belt off of unsuspecting campers and counselors. If your flag belt gets pulled off you become infected. Hidden around the camp are little eggs that act as the antidote. The aim of the game is to not get infected and hide from those who are infected while pulling your opponents belts.
The Gold team was the winner of tonight’s EP.
