It is another beautiful day here at Falling Creek.

“It’s your reaction to adversity, not adversity itself that determines how your life’s story will develop.” - Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Morning Watch Story

Every Morning Watch is an opportunity to learn a valuable lesson. Alex Watson shared what Strength means to him. Alex reminded us about the different types of strength that we have, whether it be mental, physical or emotional.

Alex defined strength as a characteristic developed by choosing the difficult option instead of taking the easier path. When confronted by a difficult situation, it is often easier to take the simple route out, maybe the route with less consequences. This, however, does not build character or strength. Alex explained this by telling us a personal story. When he was 17 years old, he started at a new school. He explained how the dynamic of the school was fairly competitive. Alex easily made friends with the popular group of boys, although after a few months the leader of the group instructed Alex to stop being friends with these boys from another school. Given an unfair ultimatime, it is them or us, Alex decided not to stop being friends with either. The boys at his school removed him from group chats and shunned him.

Alex felt as though he had the strength to make the right decision. Although it was difficult, and he had to suffer the consequences, he felt as though this was better than just simply ending his friendships with his other friends. The strength to make the right decision made his school life a little bit harder, but he also gained genuine friends in that time which is always better.

Making the difficult decision may come with consequences, such as being honest if you accidentally damaged someone’s property as opposed to simply lying. It makes you stronger, and it builds character. Deal with the consequences and become a stronger individual.

Insight Into Activities: Traditional Sport Feature

Today, we would like to highlight some of our more traditional sport activities that the boys enjoy at Falling Creek.

Fitness: No sports program would be complete without fitness. Our fitness sessions help young minds connect with both their physical and mental wellbeing. Of course we do the traditional, running, lifting and intense workouts. However, we also offer yoga, as well as guided meditations.

Soccer: it is time to practice those soccer skills, usually they start with some dribbling techniques and let the boys practice some ball control. This improves their overall motor skills and helps them build their confidence when they play a match.

“ I think a scrimmage is fun! I wish I could spend more time playing soccer.” says Davis P. in cabin 27 from Lexington, Kentucky.

Tennis: We teach the boys techniques such as volleys, forehand, backhand, as well as overheads. Every Friday is a match day, where campers are given the opportunity to showcase what they have been learning throughout the week.

“Tennis is always fun. We get to play a lot of games and practice.” says Max C. in cabin 5 from Austin, Texas. “Tennis is my favorite camp activity.”

Pickleball: At pickleball, we have the boys learning the fundamentals and rules of the game. We always play a short game where each boy can practice serving, and hitting the ball. We teach them techniques such as forehand and backhand.

“Pickleball is my favorite sport. It is basically like tennis… but more fun!” says Yates S. in cabin 34 from Greenville, South Carolina. “I have loads of fun playing doubles.”

Football: Flag Football is like American Football but it is a no contact sport. They focus on both offense and defense, improving skills for positions including the kicker and quarterback.

“I see myself as very athletic, I love the game and how it is played.” says Jack H. in cabin 23 from Alexandria, Virginia. “I love scoring touchdowns!”

Basketball: This activity begins with a warm up as well as some deep stretching. We then focus on mastering techniques, such as passing, lay ups, and shooting. We have free throw games where the boys are provided an opportunity to practice scoring and work on their aim.

Evening Program

This evening, the camp divided a bit where 12 cabins went on their cabin overnight and the rest of camp enjoyed Line EP, as the lines separated to play different games.

Sorrel and Tsuga went to the Turf Field to play Yoshi tag. Robinia had a super fun Dock Party in the Upper Lake, while Betula enjoyed a Mystery Game Night.

The boys had an awesome time playing games and then went to enjoy milk and cookies.
