Let’s rejuvenate our spirits, minds and bodies. Sundays are best for winding down and re-energizing. It is an opportunity to rest and unwind. We have the perfect program to ensure the campers are prepared for the week ahead’s activities. We dedicate time to reflect on the past week’s accomplishments, as well as set goals for the coming week.
Firstly, we have a delicious breakfast accompanied by Krispy Kreme doughnuts, a tradition that remains a favorite with both the boys and the staff.
Our cabins get inspected every day, but this is the cabin inspection that matters the most! This is a more thorough inspection conducted by one of the directors. It’s a deeper clean where the counselors help support the campers more in the clean up process, which builds a sense of community within the cabins.
Each cabin gets time to clean up, which includes sweeping, ensuring the showers and toilets are clean, tidying up each area, and making the bunk beds. It also includes an open trunk inspection.
It’s a good way to reset and have a clean slate after a busy week. Cabin inspections teach the boys the importance of personal responsibility, teamwork, and maintaining a clean and organized living space.
The cleanest cabins with the highest score are let out first for ice cream sundaes.
Praise the Lord.
It is time to give thanks for the wonderful week we are blessed with in our weekly church sessions. This is when we get to reflect on the week that we have had, and reconnect with our spiritual selves. This is a time for focusing on our mental wellbeing as well as checking in with ourselves and God. We sing songs, watch meaningful skits, praise the Lord, and enjoy a wonderful service led by Matt Sloan.
Sunday lunch means southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and a warm dinner roll. A definite crowd favorite, something we all look forward to on Sundays, would be our delicious tradition of enjoying ice-cream sundaes.
The boys get a choice of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, along with dairy-free alternative options. Topped up with your choice of whipped cream, chocolate or caramel sauce, crushed cookies, sprinkles and cherries.
On Sunday, we enjoy our traditional weekly cookout. We meet up on the Turf field and enjoy burgers with a range of toppings. We offer delicious burger options which include a beef burger patty (vegetarian options available) topped with a choice of lettuce, tomato, cheese, and condiments. Side options include fried pickles, salted chips, and watermelon slices. For dessert we enjoyed yummy lemon bars.
Another wonderful camp tradition includes creating cabin signs. We have cabin signs from all over the decades decorated on our cabin walls which creates fond memories to look back on. Creating a cabin sign is another way to leave your mark at Falling Creek, leaving a legacy to look back on for years to come.
More tradition to follow, we have our weekly campfire. This creates another opportunity to sit together in unity and get ready for the week ahead. We talk about Strength and what it means, as well as how we can embody that in our daily lives. We enjoy songs, skits, and stories, as this is a great way to set the tone for the week.
Our Sunday traditions are important, meaningful to the community, and ensure we are prepared for the upcoming week.
