There’s something about weekends at camp that hits differently. The energy shifts, the costumes come out, and campers dive head-first into big themes, big games, and (occasionally) even bigger mud puddles. Here’s a snapshot of what went down.
The legend of the Guinea Trout took a wild turn this weekend when it kidnapped DQ. The popular counselor disappeared early in the day—and it wasn’t long before a message surfaced: the Guinea Trout was building a villainous army, and it had lured all the counselors to its side.
Enter Will Walters, stepping in to lead a resistance. He and a rescued DQ hatched a plan—DQ’s Revenge—and recruited a team of campers to help take down the Trout once and for all.
It was an all-out battle: Campers vs. Counselors. Camouflage, secret missions, underwater clues, and wild strategy ruled the night. DQ’s alliance worked their way across camp to confront each counselor-turned-traitor, with the goal of weakening the Trout’s power before the final showdown.
“I love sneaking up on someone and pulling their flag off!” said Palmer T. from Mobile, AL.
Did they succeed? You’ll have to ask your son. Just don’t be surprised if he still thinks the Trout is out there, waiting for round two...
Gator Games kicked off early Saturday morning—partly because of predicted storms, partly because it takes a while to wash off that much mud.
Campers “mudded up” at the corners of the Land Sports Field before diving into egg tosses, water relays, and a full-on mud war against counselors armed with water guns. The morning wrapped with a massive slip-n-slide by the pit of dirt, followed by a quick jump in the lake for those who wanted to rinse off… or not.
“I just got soaked in the water toss games!” said Charlie O. from Houston, TX, with two little stripes of face paint on his cheeks. “Everyone started throwing sponges over their heads with two minutes left and I was SO WET!”
With storms holding off, the afternoon shifted into Main Camp Tournaments and Staff Shakeups. Campers chose their own adventure—whether that meant competition, creativity, or pure strategy.
"It's wild how many kids play Magic! at camp," said counselor Ashecroft. "These cards are like currency here."
Some boys took to the fields and courts for serious competition, while others stepped into new creative roles or explored side quests like shadow boxing or fantasy games with names that can only be explained by the boys who played them.
Sunday started with church. Chaplain Matt Sloan introduced this week’s theme—Friendship—through the story of Zacchaeus. Though seen by others as a “sinner,” Jesus called him by name and chose to be his friend. That invitation changed everything.
After fried chicken and ice cream at lunch and a quiet hour, campers headed into the afternoon for Wild Wild West. They took on roles across camp, completing missions and collecting gold—without realizing that half the points came from returning lost items found deep in the woods. Disc golf discs, soccer balls, and water bottles all ended up at the Banker’s Office, earning the Red Team 250 points for Green vs. Gold.
The day ended with a cookout and the Five-Year Dinner for returning campers, and finally-- we wrapped up with Friendship Campfire—Journeyman and new DASH were introduced, new Honor Council inducted, and a few quiet moments before the new week begins.
This weekend had a bit of everything—mud, missions, big laughs, and quiet moments around the fire. From chasing trout to returning lost gear, the boys threw themselves into it all. Now the week ahead is wide open, and we’re excited to see what they’ll take on next.
