Happy 4th of July from the mountain! We’ve had a packed week here at camp, and today we’re taking a break from regular activities to celebrate together — more on that in tomorrow’s blog. But first, here’s a look back at what’s been happening in and out of camp this week.
Cabin Overnights Early in the week, each cabin hiked out to spend the night in shelters. These overnights give campers and counselors a chance to connect right away — cooking over the fire, playing games together, and having real conversations without distractions. It’s a great way to start the session and build strong cabin groups from the beginning.
Evening Programs early in the week
On Monday, Sorrel had a dock party, and Robinia played Yoshi Tag.
On Tuesday, Tsuga hit the dock while Betula had a Line Hangout — complete with a campfire and games.
Evening Programs are always a hit, and the boys have been all-in, whether it’s silly games or relaxed time around the fire.
Green vs. Gold Kickoff: Ultimate Bingo
Wednesday was our first Green vs. Gold event of the session, and we started big with Ultimate Bingo. Cabin teams (two cabins per team) raced around camp completing fun challenges to earn bingo chips, then headed to the beach to place them on the giant bingo board.
Gold teams scored 3 bingos.
Green teams scored 4 bingos.
That gave Green the first win — and 300 points to start off the competition!
Out-of-Camp Trips
This week’s theme is Perseverance, and the boys have been living that out in big ways — especially on trips. Just yesterday, we had campers:
Mountain biking at DuPont (two groups)
Rock climbing at Rumbling Bald
Sailing on Lake Summit
Paddling the French Broad River
Whether on trail, rock, water, or wheels, they’ve been pushing themselves and having a blast.
And Today… We Celebrate!
It’s the 4th of July, and we’ve got a full day of red, white, and blue ahead — special games, all-camp fun, and fireworks to wrap up the night. We’ll have a full recap in tomorrow’s post, but in the meantime, we’re wishing all of you a safe and happy 4th of July from all of us here at Falling Creek!
