Mera Vaquero Sánchez

  • My name is Merari Jocelin Vaquero Sánchez
  • I’m known as Mera
  • I’m from Puebla, México.
  • I’m a student at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, currently in my final term and preparing to begin my professional internship in marketing and digital media.
  • This is my 2nd year on staff at Falling Creek (’26-’27)
  • I’m a member of the culinary team
  • My favorite camp tradition? I loved the night of the Fourth of July watching the sky light up with the camp songs playing in the background…and, of course, that song we always played before eating Frito Pie.
  • If I could be any animal I would be a whale. They are huge animals capable of traveling great distances, and I find the ocean too beautiful not to want to explore it from its depths.
  • My childhood hero was my dad
  • What habit or skill do I want to improve this summer? I would like to improve my conversational English, especially my confidence when speaking with native speakers and people from different cultures.
  • If I could snap my fingers and travel anytime and anywhere, I would travel a thousand years into the future. I wouldn’t go to see technology or famous places; I’d want to see what humanity became and whether we learned how to live differently.
  • I’m happiest drawing, taking photographs, and walking through mountains or forests where I can watch the sunrise or sunset make me happy.
  • What accomplishment am I most proud of ? I think I was brave. I’m proud to be part of the small percentage of young people in Mexico who have had the opportunity to experience another country. I once thought it would be almost impossible because my English wasn’t very good, but even though I was afraid, I got on that plane and ended up truly enjoying both the work and my experience at FCC.
  • What makes me excited about this summer? Getting to know the kitchen better and understanding how the whole process of serving food to the campers works has helped me recognize the areas where I can improve. I feel that this experience will allow me to do my job with more confidence next summer. Knowing what to expect also means I can relax a little more, spend more time connecting with the staff, and hopefully help the new team members. I would love to share everything I was taught, along with what I learned on my own, because I remember how intimidating it can feel when everything is new. If I can make someone’s first summer a little easier, I would be happy to do that.
