Joan Cañellas

  • My name is Joan Cañellas
  • I’m known as Joan or Jan
  • I’m from Palma de Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, Spain.
  • This is my first year on staff at Falling Creek
  • I’m teaching sailing and soccer
  • I’m working as a receptionist in a boutique hotel in the old town of Palma. When I’m not working, I take care of my grandfather and go to the gym.
  • My favorite magical creature is probably the dragon. To me, it symbolizes purity and the freedom to fly.
  • I checked something big off my bucket list: I overcame my fear of diving with sharks. In January 2025, I swam with sharks in the open ocean in the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador.
  • My favorite sandwich is ham and cheese — simple, classic, but always delicious.
  • I’m trying to make a habit of not overthinking the future and focusing more on living and enjoying the present moment.
  • The best present I’ve ever received was from the IT specialist at the hotel where I work. He’s from Sydney, and during one of his visits, knowing how much I love Apple, he gave me a MessagePad from 1996 that had belonged to his late father. The value of the object and the sentimental meaning behind it made it an incredible surprise, and I keep it safely at home.
