Luke Burns

  • My name is Luke
  • I’m from Durban, South Africa, but I’ve spent 8 years in England after my family and I moved there in 2016
  • I have been attending Expedition Gap year, which is a program run by Venture Forth International, in South Africa. It is structured to qualify individuals aiming to work in the Adventure Industry. On this course I have been getting practical skills and qualifications in Mountain walking, Single pitch sport climbing, abseiling, flat water paddling, wilderness first aid and much much more! I have also had the opportunity to learn and work with some of the most qualified Adventure Guides and Wild Medics in the Country!
  • This is my first year on staff at Falling Creek
  • I’m teaching rock climbing
  • My favorite mythological or magical creature is a dragon!! I’ve always loved Dragons for their raw power, versatility, and wisdom. They’re simply amazing and have such strong cultural and historical significance all over the world.
  • Something I completed on my “bucket list” was climbing in Fontainebleau!! I had the opportunity to spend 2 days in the magical forests!! It’s one of those places that you have to experience for yourself in person to understand why it’s so special! It felt like a pilgrimage honestly!
  • My favorite sandwich is an everything sandwich! Just throw every ingredient imaginable on there and I’ll be satisfied.
  • I’m trying to make a habit of saying yes! I want to be spontaneous and down for every kind of adventure or opportunity even if it pushes me out of my usual comfort zone! How else am I supposed to grow as a person if I’m not always wanting to learn and experience new things?!
  • What was the best gift I’ve ever received? I received a climbing rope from a friend who I met that same week! It was amazing! He saw my passion for climbing and understood how much he would be helping me! I didn’t even ask him for it. It was just an immense display of kindness and generosity that I would love to repay someday
